Klaas
Kouwen Family

Wawase is a village
of about 2000 souls in southern Ghana, an hour north of Cape
Coast.
It has been a mission station
since 1993. A church started by the mission in the mid 90’s
was placed in the hands of the local brethren in 2003. Somewhat
earlier (in 1999) J.C. and Rosella Witmer commenced with
phonics lessons, and this work blossomed into a full-fledged
school. Victory Christian School now has eleven classes on
primary and junior high level, and has grown to the present
360 children and 14 teachers, all of which are Ghanaian. Since
2002 the following headmasters have worked at the school: Eric
Cherry, Andy Zelinski and Elson Miller.
In August 2007 the Klaas Kouwen
family came to Wawase. Their background is Dutch. Klaas is
headmaster, his wife Geraldine
takes care of household and family home school duties together
with daughter Jessica. Jessica also assists Klaas at school
(typing exams etc.). Steven, Harry, Otto and Bram help a lot
with practical issues around the house after their school hours.
Pray for Victory Christian School. Its
motto “Equipping
Youth to Serve God and Man” can only be worked out if
all teachers are of one accord and on fire for God!
Please pray for Wawase. The town is steeped in a mix of superficial
Christianity, ancestor worship, juju and taboo observances.
What a joy it would be to see revival come to the whole
town! What the Lord did long ago in Wales can also occur in
Wawase! Pray for the Kouwen family:
- That they may quickly learn
the Twi language
- For continuing physical
and spiritual health
- That interaction with the
people in town will lead to saved souls
- That responsibilities at
school will be shouldered properly
- That the daily contact
the children have with many peers will open their hearts
- That the church in Wawase
will be able to solve difficulties that are hindering
growth
- That they will be able
to cope with the isolation. They are 12 – 15 hours
away from the northern stations and have limited contact
with other missionary families.
Thank the Lord for:
- Freedom at school to apply
God’s Word to the lives
of the children and teachers
- Opportunities to visit
sick people in town and sing and pray for them
- Good contacts with the
neighbours
- The manifold blessings
God showers on them every day!
