Weston Leibee familyWe have been blessed to serve our Lord here in Ghana since the summer of 2003. We live among the Konkomba tribe, who number around 400,000. They are animists, being deceived by Satan into a religion of venerating their ancestors and attempting to worship 'the Supreme God' through mediator-spirits. They are nearly 100% agricultural and very rural, living almost entirely off their farms, which they cultivate, tend, and harvest by hand.

After spending about a year and a half in language learning, we have been ministering since the spring of 2005 around the Katani area, about a 4 hour bumpy drive from the town of Tamale. Currently, we are evangelizing and discipling in about 10 villages using a very hands-on approach where we bike out to their villages, sit under grass sitting places, talk and teach, spend the night in their room with them, wake up the next morning and pray with them, and then bike back home. Though I often go alone, at times Charity accompanies me out, and sometimes she even goes by herself to teach and encourage the women. These 10 villages also have about 15-20 leaders between them, who come to us in Katani every week or two for a day of Bible teaching. We need much wisdom from God as we seek to identify with their culture and its challenges, speak God's Word into their lives, and "teach every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Jesus Christ" Col 1:28.

It has been a joy to see Christ's kingdom blossoming in these men's lives! Most of them are illiterate, and it takes much time and repetitive teaching, but the fruits of the Spirit being manifest in their lives are truly thrilling. There are setbacks, persecution, sickness, and challenges, but God is very faithful.

We live in a simple mud dwelling in a central village to the other 10. We have no running water, but we do have limited electricity produced by solar panel. In seeking to live a lifestyle of identification with the Konkombas, a lot of our time is also consumed in just living!

John Esh and Esther Esh from PA play a large and very needed role in doing many of these and other tasks, freeing up some of my time for study and teaching. John and Esther also teach in the village primary school as a GES teachers, for which the community is very grateful. John has lots of opportunities for interaction and ministry in the community. They will be going home to PA around February of 2009.

The Lord has blessed our lives with the arrival of Hudson Charles Leibee in Dec 2007 during our furlough. He has adjusted well to village life and is a healthy happy little boy.

Please pray for us as we teach these people about the kingdom of God. We daily need wisdom from God as we stand in front of a people who are coming from centuries of spirit worship to understand about God and His Word. We want to see leaders raised up in these village churches. Thank you for joining us in this work!
