Revelation 3:8 “Behold, I have set before thee an open
door, and no man can shut it.” Let us pour out our lives
as an oblation to the world for Christ and the ends of the
earth shall “hear and be glad.”
You may wonder why we have chosen to call
this issue, “Cross
Cultural Missions on Your Doorstep!” The reason
is simple. There are more opportunities for
cross-cultural
ministry right here at home than one would initially realize
which would prove eternally fruitful if one would pursue
them.
Many desire cross-cultural ministry but never
get involved because they feel they have not been “called” to
the mission field, or that they are unqualified in some way.
Others desire to eventually go on the foreign field but are
not yet prepared. Sadly, many never realize that they could
have a wonderfully fruitful cross-cultural ministry right here
at home! Christ said, “Open your eyes and look around
and you will find the harvest fields ripe, waiting to be harvested.” In
this issue we have endeavored to explore the opportunities
and avenues available for this type of ministry. Amazingly,
one need only draw a circumference of one hundred miles around
his given location and find numerous pockets of ethnic groups
representing many different countries therein. Some of the
avenues of missionary service within these groups would be
perhaps teaching English as a second language, as many of them
are new immigrants into the country. Many of these foreigners
have no friends and are delighted to make your acquaintance
if you simply show some interest in their food, culture, or
language. Many such opportunities would give a “missionary” welcome
access into the home of these foreigners. Oh, that God would
stir our hearts with the needs and openings He has opened up
for us right here at home.
The reality is that there are many
opportunities for "foreign" work
or reaching the unreached right here on our own turf.
It seems to me that God has been bringing many people groups
within
easy reach of us! What an opportunity is ours!
