In the past three years we have seen many young
people who desire to obey God’s Word spread the Gospel to all nations.
Glowing Embers has provided an opportunity for many young people
to be faithfully involved in missions and missionary life on
a more personal and in-depth way. They have been serving through
a threefold commitment: (1) by committing to give financially
on a monthly basis, (2) by committing to pray daily, and (3)
by writing a monthly letter to their assigned or chosen missionary.
They are closely connected to their missionary or mission station
by a monthly update which might include: snapshots of daily
mission life, specific prayer needs, highlights, and new ministry
developments, etc. With the update they also receive a monthly
newsletter with encouraging articles written by different group
leaders. Group leaders are individuals or families who act
as mediators between the missionary and the young people. The
groups range in size from 2-9 young people.
I marvel when I think of how many of these young
people and also many group leaders have spent time on the mission
field,
some through the SENT team, others who have become missionaries
and are serving in a station, and others who have simply
gone to serve the missionary. In the last few months, we
have heard
of some more who will be able to go. I don’t believe
the reason they are able to go and serve the Lord on the
foreign field is because Glowing Embers is such a great
program, but
rather I believe that God has done some deep things in
the hearts of the young people concerning the work of His
Kingdom
before they ever were a part of Glowing Embers. Now He
is moving them on in His Kingdom building work, because
as they served
wherever and however they could, their hearts continued
to grow and expand in the love of our Lord Jesus and for
His work.
I am very happy to be able to join in that work, as a group
leader. Oh that Christ would receive praise and worship
from all nations for His suffering.
Here is a testimony of one young man from Glowing
Embers. I thought you might be blessed to have a closer look
at
his heart;
it certainly was a blessing to me.
As I was thinking of someone in the Bible
who challenged my life, I thought of Jeremiah. He is such
a picture
of steadfastness and obedience. Apparently he was a
young
man when God called
him. He told God, “I cannot speak for I am a child.” But
God said, “Say not ‘I am a child,’ for thou
shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command
thee thou shalt speak.” God doesn’t give
any excuses to be silent for Him because of our age.
God promised to give
Jeremiah the words to speak and promised to protect
him. We too can experience these same promises if we
are willing to
step out in obedience to God and share His Word.
The way Jeremiah kept proclaiming God’s Word even when
it seemingly wasn’t accepted really stands out to me.
It could have seemed that he was wasting his time. Very little
fruit, if any, came from his ministry. Do I have such a love
for God and His Word that I will keep sharing the Gospel even
when no one seems to be responding? Oh for Jeremiah’s
dedication to God!
In Lamentations, Jeremiah wept for the destruction
of his people. Oh that we could weep for the lost
around us! Oh
that God would
put a burden on our hearts that will not let us
go!
Today we are still serving Jeremiah’s God. Let us not
let Him down, but give ourselves to Him so our mouths can be
filled by Him.
To any young person who feels that God wants
to enlarge his heart and is willing to lay
down his
life for
the Kingdom of God and is looking for things
he can start
doing here
at home:
I would encourage you to start where ever you
can in sacrificing for our Lord’s sake. If this has inspired your heart
in the work of the Lord and you would like to commit to serving
our Eternal King the Lord Jesus by giving financially, praying
daily, and supporting missionaries by writing, you are very
welcome to send me an email or contact the mission office for
more information.
